March of Dimes, in partnership with Omaha Magazine is seeking nominations for the 2017 Nurse of the Year Awards. These awards recognize outstanding nurses in Nebraska and Western Iowa for their contributions to the health care of our communities. Anyone may nominate a nurse, including patients, community members, and health care professionals or administrators; more than one nurse may be nominated. We encourage nominations from all areas of nursing. The 2017 Nomination Form must be completed for each nurse nominated. No resumes accepted.
Nominations are blinded and scored based on credentials, certifications, their proudest outcomes, leadership, professional associations and achievements. Blinded applications are scored and reviewed by the Nurse of the Year Nominations Committee.

2017 Event Chair:
Sharon McArdle, Director of Nursing at Methodist Women's Hospital
Dating back to the polio era, nurses have played a critical role in advancing the mission of the March of Dimes. Forty-thousand nurses volunteered for the Salk polio vaccine field trials in 1954, the largest medical investigation of its kind ever conducted.
Today, nurses serve as volunteers, fundraisers and advisors to the March of Dimes. Nurses are critical to our mission of improving the health of babies – and are key in comforting families.
The March of Dimes and Omaha Magazine will host the 2017 Nurse of the Year Awards on Thursday, November 9, 2017, to celebrate nursing excellence and recognize leaders in nursing from across Nebraska and Western Iowa. Patients, families and colleagues are encouraged to nominate nurses from all aspects of health care. Nominations are due August 31, 2017.
The purpose of the event is to raise important funds and increase interest and public awareness of the diverse and rewarding careers available to nurses. The March of Dimes is proud to provide a platform to the medical community to pay tribute to these unsung heroes.
Every year, 15 million babies are born prematurely worldwide, and 1 million will die before their first birthday. Your gift helps the March of Dimes fund research, education, advocacy and programs that help more moms have full-term pregnancies and healthy babies.
The March of Dimes celebrates nursing in the most meaningful way, through partnerships with hospitals, health care facilities, organizations, vendors and individuals. Sponsorship opportunities are available at a variety of levels for our Nurse of the Year event, providing integration and civic engagement while playing tribute to nurses. We look forward to discussing your partnership with the March of Dimes. For more information, please contact Kristin Schemahorn at (402) 498-7111.
