Event description

The chefs, volunteers and guests who make up our Signature Chefs Events community are coming together in new, innovative ways to suport moms and babies this year.

We are following state mandated guidelines in response to COVID-19 and will not have an in-person event this year. So, we are preparing an exciting, new Virtual Gala for your 2020 March of Dimes Signature Chefs Auction experience!

We need your help now more than ever. Your support funds:

  • COVID-19 interventions and support for moms and babies
  • Programs that promote health equity for moms and babies and directly combat racial disparities in maternal and child health
  • Free virtual NICU support program for families
  • Virtual prenatal programs for moms-to-be
  • Educational programs, including live Facebook panel discussions, to get info into the hands of moms and families
  • Necessary supplies for expectant mothers including blood pressure cuffs and masks and so much more!

Support the mission

Every year, 15 million babies are born prematurely worldwide, and 1 million will die before their first birthday. Your gift helps the March of Dimes fund research, education, advocacy and programs that help more moms have full-term pregnancies and healthy babies.

EVENT DETAILS

2016 Event Chair:
Teri Tipton
Vice President Patient Care Service/Chief Nursing Officer at Nebraska Methodist Health System

Dating back to the polio era, nurses have played a critical role in advancing the mission of the March of Dimes. Forty-thousand nurses volunteered for the Salk polio vaccine field trials in 1954, the largest medical investigation of its kind ever conducted.

Today, nurses serve as volunteers, fundraisers and advisors to the March of Dimes. Nurses are critical to our mission of improving the health of babies – and are key in comforting families.

The March of Dimes and Omaha Magazine will host the 2016 Nurse of the Year Awards on Tursday, November 10, 2016, to celebrate nursing excellence and recognize leaders in nursing from across Nebraska and Western Iowa. Patients, families and colleagues are encouraged to nominate nurses from all aspects of health care. Nominations are due August 31, 2016.

The purpose of the event is to raise important funds and increase interest and public awareness of the diverse and rewarding careers available to nurses. The March of Dimes is proud to provide a platform to the medical community to pay tribute to these unsung heroes.

March of Dimes, in partnership with Omaha Magazine (link www.omahamagzine.com), is seeking nominations for the 2016 Nurse of the Year Awards. These awards recognize outstanding nurses in Nebraska and Western Iowa for their contributions to the health care of our communities. Anyone may nominate a nurse, including patients, community members, and health care professionals or administrators; more than one nurse may be nominated. We encourage nominations from all areas of nursing. The 2016 Nomination Form must be completed for each nurse nominated. No resumes accepted.

Nominations are blinded and scored based on credentials, certifications, their proudest outcomes, leadership, professional associations and achievements. Blinded applications are scored and reviewed by the volunteer Nurse of the Year Nominations Committee.

Nurse of the Year Nominations are closed.
